A portion of proceeds from each pint sold at Real Canadian Superstore until July 10th will go to Rainbow Railroad, supporting at-risk LGBTQI+ people get to safety.

Rainbow Railroad is an international organization headquartered in Toronto and New York City with a network of partners and volunteers around the world. 

Founded in 2006 with a mission to help at risk LGBTQI+ people around the world get to safety. There are currently over 60 countries where homosexuality is criminalized. In 10 of those countries, a conviction can result in the death penalty. 

Through our core Emergency Travel Support (ETS) program and government resettlement pathways, we work with vulnerable LGBTQI+ people to help plan a route to a safer country where they can resettle and begin a life in freedom and without fear. 

Through additional programs, Rainbow Railroad provides cash assistance and non-monetary resources to help LGBTQI+ individuals improve their safety as well as helping partner organizations in the impacted countries with funding and support to increase their capacity and enhance their service delivery programs. As well, the organization responds to crisis situations globally that put LGBTQI+ people at increased risk. 

In 2023, we were able to help 7,690 LGBTQI+ people from roughly 40 countries — a 50 percent increase over the 4,560 people we supported in 2022. This included helping 464 resettle to safer countries, of which 232 are now calling Canada home. 

However, the need for our support continues to grow – in 2023, Rainbow Railroad received requests for help from 15,347 LGBTQI+ people. This number will exceed 16,000 in 2024. 

Through new partnerships with the Canadian and U.S governments, in 2024 Rainbow Railroad will resettle approximately 700 LGBTQI+ refugees to each country where they can live openly and authentically – this is more than double any previous year in our history. 

Overall, our goal in 2024 is to provide support to at least 8,000 at-risk LGBTQI+ people.
